Zebras are a member of the horse family native to the mountains, plains, grasslands, and woodlands of Africa. Did you know that like tigers, the stripes of a zebra are unique to each individual, and no two zebras look exactly alike?
History:
Experts aren’t exactly sure as to the purpose of the zebra’s stripes. The main theory as to why zebras evolved with them is related to camouflage, as vertical striping might help zebras hide in tall grasses by obscuring their outline. Similarly, a group of zebras standing together might confuse a predator because of the many different stripes blending together. On the other hand, some experiments have found that striped animals actually draw less interest from flies, parasitical ones included!
