The largest member of the weasel family, the wolverine is a ferocious and carnivorous mammal that can be found primarily in the northern United States, Canada, Alaska, Russia, Siberia, and the Nordic European countries.
History:
Although wolverines are classified as an animal of least concern, their worldwide population numbers are unknown. This is mainly due to the fact that wolverines have a naturally low population density, and are constantly roaming over large distances. However, due to human development and encroachment, wolverines have slowly been pushed out of many of their endemic habitats. Because of this, some researchers believe that wolverines may have a declining population and could soon be classified as vulnerable.
