Endemic to Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, iguanas are a genus of large reptiles that’s comprised of multiple species. They are mainly found in tropical forests around rivers, lakes, swamps, and any other large body of water.
History:
Did you know that iguanas are actually excellent swimmers? In fact, they spend a large majority of their life in the wild around bodies of water, and often elude would-be predators by swimming away from them. The green iguana species is classified as least concern by the IUCN, although the Lesser Antillean iguana is currently threatened by habitat loss and degradation.
