History
Explorers have always carried a variety of supplies. Probably the two best-known American explorers, Lewis and Clark, purchased over 260 distinct items to outfit their Corps of Discovery on the journey to explore the Louisiana Purchase. These items included clothing, fishing tackle, firearms, medicine, cooking supplies, gifts, blankets. These days, explorers carry more technical items, such as video microscopes, underwater cameras, and remotely operated vehicles.
